How popular is the iPhone in Australia? 5.2 million units by 2013
After weeks of research, where many people have emailed us asking questions such as, how many iphone users are there in Australia and how many smartphone users we have finally got an answer for. The current population for Australia stands at 22.6 Million people and some cool facts from the abs states that:
- one births every 1 minute and 46 seconds,
- one death every 3 minutes and 40 seconds ,
- a net gain of one international migration every 3 minute and 05 seconds , leading to
- an overall total population increase of one person every 1 minute and 37 seconds
During our research, we found that there are more mobile phone subscriptions than the Australian population, 24.35 million and 22.6 million respectively. This suggests there are quite a few people owning two phones. Most of the subscribers are with Telstra who has around 11 million, followed by Optus with 8 million and rest being with the other carriers.
What we wanted to know more was how many actual iPhone users are there in Australia? Well firstly we found out the number of smartphone users in Australia which currently stands at 9.73 million, around 40% of total mobile users. This would mean currently there are around 3,43 million iPhone users in Australia. By 2013, this figure will rise to 5.29 million, accounting for 39.4% of the Australian smartphone market and 20% off the overall mobile market.
Other interesting news we found was, that using your smartphone to browse the net ie. facebook, in bed was increasing popular with 54% of women admitting they did compared to 49% of men in 2011. By 2013, these figures will rise to 57% of women and 52% of men. Funny news includes, 38% of men use their mobiles while in the toilet or ‘loo’ but lower in women where only 22% did regularly. By 2013, 44% of men would be using their phones while looing or what not, compared to only 25% of women. I guess this suggest men use their time wisely.
Overall, the iPhone is likely to dominant to smartphone market in the near future unless other major players such as HTC, Samsung, Google and even Microsoft come up with a better OS.
